Things to do in Sea Point
Prowl The Promenade
The 7km stretch along the Sea Point promenade is a destination in itself. It is a broad paved seaside contour path that curves along the coastline and is separated from the sidewalk, which follows the coastal Beach Road, by a broad green lawn.
The promenade offers a number of children's playparks, beaches with rock pools, and panoramic views of Table Mountain, Signal Hill, and Lion's Head. It is popular among families with kids in prams, senior citizens; dog walkers, brisk walkers, and joggers. There are designated areas where bicycles and rollerblades are allowed too.
Swim Lengths
The Sea Point Pool at the Sea Point Pavilion, also along the promenade, offers a community open-air pavilion facility; a 50m Olympic size swimming pool, two kiddies splash pools, and a deep diving pool with springboard diving equipment. Built right on the Atlantic Ocean, the pools are crystalline, circulated with filtered seawater, and have minimum chlorine levels.
Beach
If exploring tide pools is not your idea of a beach experience, Sea Point is still within easy reach of the
beaches of
Bantry Bay,
Clifton, and
Camps Bay where you can sunbathe in soft white sand and brave the cold water of the Atlantic Ocean.
Restaurants
Sea Point's Main Road offers restaurants interspersed with small shops, bars, apartments, and everything urban. Whether you're looking for a Thai, Italian, or Portuguese meal, or are interested in sampling pasture-reared beef steaks, you will not be disappointed by the selection on offer.
Sea Point's Beach Road also has a handful of good restaurants which can be found among the apartment blocks. La Perla Restaurant is an institution and was established in 1959 as a luxury eatery where celebrities liked to be seen.
Shopping
Get to The Point and experience this light and airy shopping and wellness destination where you can enjoy the coffee shop culture, an invigorating gym workout at one of South Africa's premier gyms, and do your grocery shopping.
The Adelphi Centre on Sea Point's Main Road is located in a converted cinema with over fifty shops, including a large supermarket, plenty of boutiques, banks, coffee shops, and speciality stores. For expanded shopping experiences, Sea Point is also within easy reach of the
V&A Waterfront.
Cape Sidecar Adventure
And now, for something completely different, why don't you take a break from Sea Point's 24-hour cosmopolitan atmosphere and step back in history by hitching a ride in a vintage World War II sidecar? A fleet of 25 sidecars is available for chauffeured tours, transfers, and fun events. Take your pick from a variety of itineraries, ranging from a spin around the Peninsula to a meander through the Winelands.
Sea Point Weather
In Sea Point, you're in for idyllically hot Summer weather. This makes space for dramatic displays of Cape Winter storms along the promenade. People flock here to watch the waves crash over the promenade wall when the Atlantic Ocean is raging and waves are chased onshore by the North-West wind.
