The rivers flowing through the bustling seaside town became pleasant walkways, shaded by oaks, with bridges going over them.The canals of Little Amsterdam, once beautiful, sadly became an unofficial waste disposal system. In Victorian days, they were systematically covered over.Today these canals, now tunnels about 2m in diameter, still exist and relentlessly channel fresh, crystal-clear water from Table Mountain ... currently, straight to the sea.
Bring your own headlamps, bottled water and river shoes (or gumboots) to explore the belly of the Mother City. Then pop in/out of a manhole on the manicured lawns of the Castle.Learn all about the fascinating history of the waters flowing below the City.This 90-minute experience is suitable for children aged from seven years upwards to adults with an adventurous spirit.Children need to be accompanied by a guardian.Explorers need to be physically fit and surefooted because certain parts of the tunnels can be slippery.
