Our inspiring leaders Richard and Nick always do their best to attend industry shows and conferences held globally. In May 2022, Nick attended the first Scale Conference in Barcelona where he was instantly inspired and blown away by the unity of the Short-term rental industry in Europe.
With a visionary spark and a drive to pave the way forward, Richard and Nick, joined forces with the international conference maestros, Scale, to bring about a landmark event in South Africa's short-term rental industry. The first conference of its kind, Scale South Africa, was a hotbed of industry insights, global collaborations, and future-focused discussions that unfolded over two eye-opening days in Cape Town (12 and 13 March 2024).
Our mission to professionalise and optimise the thriving short-term rental scene in our home city, as well as the whole of South Africa, took centre stage at the event. This was an opportunity for everyone - from property management companies and rental owners to investors and hosts - to gather under one roof, engage, and learn.
And it wasn't just about giving the floor to renowned local and global speakers. We teamed up with global giants like Airbnb and Booking.com to fuel this innovative endeavour. This conference also allowed so many of our peers who are unable to join the international conferences a space to be involved in the conversation.

This is the start of something special in our developing nation, on a continent which has so much opportunity and in an industry which I’m so thankful to be a part of.
The conference was a whirlwind of diverse dialogues, from addressing the nitty-gritty of guest breakages and revenue management to the exciting prospects of AI and sustainability in the short-term rental sphere. The success of the event resounds in our subsequent initiatives, including the formation of a Short-Term Rental Association to lend a unified voice to our community, facilitate stakeholder interactions, and bridge the industry-government divide.
